Museums, in general, all share the common goal of collecting, preserving, educating and enriching society through the specific items they collect, curate and present to the public. The Makotopong Car Museum is no different in that it brings history to life through the timeless beauty of automobiles and tells a story of HERITAGE and captures the link between South Africa and Mercedes Benz. While the collection is made up of a number of car brands, the majority of 250 cars in the collection are Mercedes-Benz and for its founder, on a personal level, it is a reflection of the passion he has specifically for the brand, which began in the 60’s, when he was a young boy of just 6 years old. Whether you’re a seasoned car enthusiast or you’d like to take a trip down memory lane, Makotopong Car Museum is a must-visit destination that celebrates the rich history of the automobile and where each car tells a story. Plan your visit today and immerse yourself in the world and marvels of automative history.

“Makotopong” , a village located 30km outside Polokwane in the province of Limpopo, South Africa, is where our founder’s family is from and so it only seemed fitting to name the museum the place from which he is from, to honor and acknowledge his ancestry.
